It is sad we live in a country where we do not take responsibility for our failings as a people, where sentiment overrides substance, and where Buhari is criticized in death, yet his ghost still lurks in 2027.
We fiercely condemn Buhari for failing to live up to our expectations as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, yet our approach to politics remains much the same as it was in 2015. Nothing has truly changed.
Sadly, we have blindly elevated politicians who wear the pretentious garb of integrity and empathy without presenting a convincing plan to act decisively in the public interest.
We have elevated politicians who make beautiful speeches about visiting scenes like Mokwa and Yelewata, without clearly articulating the proactive measures they would take to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
We have elevated politicians who speak confidently about fixing the electricity problem by copying foreign models, without understanding the complex, underlying failures of Nigeria’s power sector. How do you solve a problem you do not understand?
Indeed, we have blindly elevated politicians who promise to do “everything possible” to address insecurity, yet fail to show what they would do differently. As far as I know, “everything possible” is no idea, no plan, and no strategy.

We may love or loathe Buhari, even in death, but his ghost will continue to haunt us if our political mindset does not change. The time has come to demand more.
It is no longer enough to vote. We must interrogate. We must demand clarity. We must refuse to be deceived again. Those seeking political office must not only show empathy, they must show working, with clear, practical plans to solve the real problems Nigerians face.
